IAF Reveals Cause of Accidental Brahmos Missile Firing in Pakistan

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) attributed the accidental firing of a BrahMos missile into Pakistan in March 2022 to a technical snag.
  • In a statement submitted to the Delhi High Court, the IAF cited "combat connectors remaining connected to the junction box" as the reason for the launch.
  • This technical error bypassed safety protocols and resulted in the missile's unintended activation.
  • Three IAF officers faced termination for "gross negligence" and deviation from Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) during the incident.
  • The accidental launch caused no casualties but strained relations with Pakistan and resulted in a financial loss of Rs 24 crore to India.
