Supreme Court Presses SBI for Electoral Bond Details

  • The Supreme Court has directed the State Bank of India (SBI) to submit details of electoral bonds purchased since April 2019.
  • This comes after the Court declared the electoral bond scheme, which allowed anonymous political funding, to be unconstitutional in February 2024.
  • SBI had initially requested an extension till June 2024 to compile the information, but the Court rejected the plea.
  • The details include names of buyers, denominations of bonds purchased, and the date of transactions.
  • The information must be submitted to the Election Commission by the close of business tomorrow (March 12th).
  • The Election Commission is then required to publish the details on its website by March 15th.
